Control Denied: The Fragile Art Of Existence
I was over at Metal Martyr yesterday and there was a post with Death covering Judas Priest’s Painkiller . It got me thinking about the last years of Chuck Schuldiner and Death. Death’s last three album showed so much progression and Death was always a very technical death metal band compared to most of the others on the scene during that era. In 1996 Chuck started Control Denied in an attempt to make music that was a little more melodic than Death. It wasn’t until 1999 and after Death’s last album, The Sound Of Perseverance, that Control Denied released The Fragile Art Of Existence. Unless you are or were a devout fan of Death you may not have heard of it.
Now imagine Death goes kind of all proggy on you and they hire a power metal style singer. You have Chuck on lead and Rhythm guitars, Shannon Hamm on guitars, Steve Digiorgio on bass and Richard Christy on drums, all of whom played in Death at one time or another. Filling the vocal void was Tim Aymar who has also been in Triple X, Pharaoh and Psycho Scream.
If you look for this album in a record store chances are you won’t find it. Your best bet would be to check Amazon.com for a new or used copy or iTunes. Below isa fan made video for the song Consumed, from The Fragile Art Of Existence.

Thank you for coming by my page. I welcomed your comments on Megadeth. As you likely noted from my blog, its named after Chuck S. He was such an important poet to me in my teen years and hit so many things on the head.
Looking forward to reading more from you.
Dann
Hi Dann. I kind of wondered if your blog was named after that album. Great choice because Leprosy might not have drawn much traffic, lol. Or maybe it would have, you never know! Chuck was one of a kind.
